Churchill Downs not making changes to racing surfaces ahead of fall races
Churchill Downs does not plan to make any changes to its racing surfaces ahead of racing resuming at the track in September.
The track suspended racing earlier this year after the death of 12 horses and finished its Spring Meet at Ellis Park.
Churchill's CEO, Bill Carstanjen, said on Thursday that a review of the track did not find anything fundamentally wrong or different with it.
"There was nothing that jumped out as an apparent cause of the injuries, of the breakdowns; and, as we went through and rebuilt our processes from the ground up to check everything that we do to make extra sure, we didn't find anything material," he said.
Racing is slated to resume at the track on Sept. 14. Tickets for the fall races are on sale
Churchill is also planning to open a new sports bar in the Simulcast area, just in time for when sports betting starts in the commonwealth this September.
