College students launch free grocery delivery service to help seniors and high-risk individuals
During the COVID-19 crisis, many people have a lot of extra time on their hands.
Two college students in South Carolina are using that extra time to help others through these trying circumstances.
Mckencie Guerrero is a Clemson student pursing a health science degree, and Veronica Yanez is a University of South Carolina Beaufort student pursuing a nursing degree.
The friends went to Bluffton High School together and wanted to find a way to make a difference this summer.
"A lot of us have a lot of time now that we맥스카지노re in quarantine and school맥스카지노s over, so we were thinking of different ways we could volunteer locally," Guerrero said.
The pair saw a serious need in the community through the current pandemic and decided to start their own nonprofit organization, .
It offers free grocery delivery to seniors or high-risk residents in Bluffton and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
맥스카지노There comes a lot of anxiety with going to the grocery store, so we really wanted to be like that middle man to kind of deliver groceries and kind of relieve that anxiety of going to the grocery store and being around a ton of people," Guerrero said.
Here맥스카지노s how it works:
Simply contact Food on the Move with your grocery list.
Volunteers will do the shopping and sanitize the items following FDA guidelines.
Then they will deliver those items right to your doorstep.
"We do have our first delivery coming up this week, and we맥스카지노re really excited for that," Yanez said.
These students said this organization won맥스카지노t end when summer break is over.
They plan to expand Food on the Move by adding services and recruiting more volunteers once they return to their campuses.
맥스카지노Through service you can spread positivity and love, and I think that right now that맥스카지노s what we need the most," Guerrero said.
