Man charged in 2015 disappearance of Crystal Rogers
More than eight years after Crystal Rogers disappeared from Bardstown, an arrest has been made in the case.
Joseph Lawson, 32, of Bardstown, has been indicted on conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.
The indictment shows it's for alleged crimes on July 3 and/or July 4 2015, which is when she was last seen.
Lawson's attorney confirmed the charges are connected to the Rogers case but declined to say more. The charges were filed back in July, but court records show the proceedings were delayed because Lawson was hospitalized. He pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday. Lawson remains behind bars on a $500,000 cash bond.
He's due back in court in October for a pre-trial conference.
While he has a lengthy and violent criminal history, the name was unknown to Rogers' loved ones until Thursday. The family declined to comment on the advice of investigators, but several did tell 비바카지노 Viva they were relieved to see the case moving forward.
Shane Young, the special prosecutor, also declined to comment on the case and the arrest. It is the first arrest ever made in connection to Rogers' disappearance.
Rogers was reported missing on July 5, 2015, when she was 35 years old.
Since the mother of five disappeared, the only suspect ever named was her boyfriend at the time, Brooks Houck, with whom she shares a child, but he has never been charged.
Houck's grandmother, Anna Whitesides, has been connected to the case, as well. The state said back in 2016 that they believed her car was used to dispose of Rogers' body. She refused to testify when called to court.
Within the first year of Rogers' disappearance, Brooks' brother, Nick Houck, was fired from the Bardstown Police Department for interfering with the investigation.
Early on, a friend and employee of Brooks Houck, Danny Singleton, faced 38 counts of perjury for lying to detectives during the investigation, but pleaded guilty to lesser charges of false swearing.
The FBI took over the investigation into Rogers' disappearance back in 2020. Since then, there have been multiple searches in Bardstown, one as recent as last October.
That search focused on the farm where Rogers was last seen alive, which belongs to the family of Brooks Houck.
While Rogers' disappearance still remains a mystery, so does the death of her father, Tommy Ballard, who was killed while hunting the year after her disappearance.
