Ethan, near dead dog abandoned at Kentucky Humane Society, now trying to walk with help of staff
Ethan, the dog that was left at the Kentucky Humane Society, was up and at em' on Monday.
Although he can't do it alone, with the help of animal hospital staff, Ethan attempted to walk. According to KHS, he has no muscles but to build them back, staff is encouraging Ethan to stand and move his legs so he can get used to using them again.
"He still can't walk on his own but he's perking up his head now and he's taking more interest in his surroundings," Andrea Blair with Kentucky Humane Society.
The dog was found lying in the parking lot on Friday by someone who went to drop off donations to the center on Steedly Drive. The pup was extremely malnourished and near death. Since then, Ethan has slowly been eating, drinking and he even wagged his tail on Sunday.
The vet believes he has a 50% chance of surviving.
"Everyday he's with us it's a miracle," said Blair. "I really hope he can pull through and find a loving permanent home after this."
Blair said many people have reached out offering to foster or adopt Ethan. Right now, Blair said, they are just focusing on getting Ethan healthy. She encourages people who are looking to foster or adopt, to reach out to their local animal shelter.
"Look to your local animal shelter because between Kentucky Humane Society and shelters in other regions, there are literally thousands of animals who will need help this year," said Blair. "They may not be named Ethan and they may not have his story but they're just as deserving as love and kindness as he is."
While the veterinary staff tries to save Ethan, the Humane Society is also working with Louisville Metro Animal Services to investigate the animal cruelty incident. Anyone with information about who owned the dog can contact 502-473-PETS.
The Humane Society is also reminding residents who may be having trouble taking care of their pets to contact the Pet Help Line at 502-509-4738.
