FEMA individual assistance now available in Louisville for April flood, tornado victims
FEMA individual assistance is now available for Jefferson County residents who were affected by the April flooding and tornadoes.
State and federal officials joined Mayor Craig Greenberg to make the announcement on Thursday morning.
Greenberg said 1,200 homes and businesses in Jefferson County were damaged by the April storms, and nearly $700,000 has already been allocated to victims from FEMA.
Individual assistance helps survivors directly to assist those who have uninsured or under-insured necessary expenses and serious needs. The assistance is meant to return a home to a safe, sanitary and functional residence.
So far, more than 300 individuals have applied for FEMA assistance in the county.
"We are here to make sure we want to get the word out to every individual in Louisville, Jefferson County, that was impacted by these storms to help them get federal assistance for the cleanup on their individual property," Greenberg said.
The deadline to apply for assistance in Jefferson County is June 24.
Greenberg said there will be agents going door-to-door to help people out.

Greenberg said the city has also applied for public assistance from FEMA, but has not yet gotten an answer on whether it will be granted.
Public assistance helps communities cover costs for debris removal, life-saving emergency protective measures and restoring public infrastructure.
