The Floyd County community is grieving the tragic loss of a local high school student, Noah Maddox, who drowned while participating in a fundraiser for his school맥스카지노s football team.
Maddox, a junior student at Floyd Central High School, was helping deliver mulch to homes around Highland Lake Drive on Friday evening to raise money for the team. After completing deliveries, several players decided to swim in the lake to cool off, where Maddox drowned.
Teammates and friends have been gathering at the lake to reflect and grieve. Bryson Cook, one of Maddox맥스카지노s teammates, described the difficulty of returning to the site.

Maddox was remembered as someone who embodied community.

New Albany-Floyd County School Superintendent Travis Madison shared his condolences and acknowledged the impact of the loss on the school community.

Counselors were made available at Floyd Central High School to support students and faculty.
The tragedy comes as the community continues to process another loss 맥스카지노 the death of Bryce Gerlach, a Corydon Central student who was shot and killed during the 2024 Harvest Homecoming.

Southern Indiana has faced a series of tragedies, and Jeffersonville High School football coach Joe Washington III said students have seen too much.

Despite the heartbreak, the community has rallied together. Players from other schools, including Jeffersonville High, stepped in to help Floyd Central맥스카지노s team complete the mulch deliveries.

"His dad used to coach here," said Kurion Thompson, another Jeffersonville player. "I feel bad for his father and that his teammates were out there with him."
"I could just imagine one of my teammates 맥스카지노 I would be sad and devastated," fellow JHS player Dontravion Lucas said. "I pray for him."
Fortner said the support was overwhelming.
