8 Girl Scouts from Kentucky, southern Indiana earn prestigious Gold Award
Eight Girl Scouts from Kentucky and southern Indiana have earned the Gold Award, which is the highest honor in the Girl Scouts organization.
The award is given to Girl Scouts who tackle a local or global issue with a sustainable solution.
To earn it, each scout must use the leadership skills they've developed through their years in the program to create and carry out a community-impact project.
"Each girl proposes an idea that they want to change the world around. It should really be something that they are passionate about and that they've discovered needs to change," said Maggie Elder, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. "It's not just a one-and-done. This project is supposed to make an impact for the long haul."
Less than 5.5% of eligible Girl Scouts earn the Gold Award.
