Gov. Andy Beshear said at least eight people remain in the hospital after last week's deadly tornadoes.In an update on Thursday, Beshear said three people are in critical condition, one in serious condition, and four are in good condition.Beshear has applied for federal assistance in several counties, including Pulaski, Laurel, and Russell, where 19 people were killed.His request for assistance has yet to be approved."If you were just impacted this last weekend by the tornadoes, the White House hasn't yet approved FEMA assistance," Beshear said. "So if you go online and apply for assistance from FEMA, you're going to get denied. Not because you weren't hurt, not because you might not be eligible in the future, but because it hasn't been turned on... the president hasn't yet said yes to individual assistance."In the meantime, Beshear said his office will remain persistent about getting the funding approved for the counties impacted."We are calling the White House every day on all of them. And we are hoping for decisions as soon as we can get them," Beshear said.
