Kentucky's governor and public health commissioner held a joint press conference in Frankfort Thursday, to urge people not to panic as more cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in the U.S.So far, Kentucky has tested, or is in the process of testing, seven people. Four tests have come back negative. Three are pending and those people, according to Gov. Andy Beshear, were being tested out of an abundance of caution.You can get the latest updates on coronavirus monitoring in Kentucky on this website.Beshear also announced instead of sending test kits to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta and having to wait sometimes days for results, the state lab in Frankfort is now able to test for the coronavirus."We developed that capability late Monday and what it means (is) we are going to be able to turn around test kits much faster than we would otherwise be able to do," Beshear said.Both the governor and the public health commissioner, Dr. Steven Stack, stressed there is no need for the public to panic."It's okay to be concerned but it's essential we remain calm. We will overcome this challenge, as we have so many challenges before," Dr. =Stack said, adding, "The public needs to know that while the disease has spread the average risk to Kentuckians remains very low at this time and we're working very hard to keep it as low as we can."
