JCPS says buses were "more timely" Friday morning. Now, all eyes are on this afternoon's drop offs.
The first day of school was especially hectic this year, with excessively late drop offs, and officials have been working since last week to smooth out the kinks.
As for Friday morning, JCPS said, "It맥스카지노s fair to say that the morning runs were more timely than on Wednesday."
JCPS said they've made some short term fixes, but are still working on long-term solutions.
Watch Thursday's full update below:
They have a fleet of vans to pick up kids who get on the wrong bus. They also have 26 "shoulder buddies" to join drivers on tough routes, using GPS units that federal law prohibits drivers themselves from using.
There is a new hotline to help parents find out where their kids are: 485-RIDE. The district said it has boosted staffing at the call center from 10 to 30 people.
If a student does not arrive home when expected, parents should call the school first, then the hotline. They're asking parents to wait until 30-45 minutes after the scheduled stop time before calling.
There is supposed to be a bus tracking app soon, too, but it's not ready for parents yet. JCPS said it is being tested on Friday with school administrators.
Other new information, per JCPS:
- On "shoulder buddies," more than 200 JCPS employees volunteered.
- Drivers are doing dry runs Thursday morning and Friday afternoon so we can determine which buses are still running well behind their arrival and departure times and make adjustments or be prepared to deploy vans and additional transportation for the students on those buses tomorrow.
- A Return to School web page has been launched, which should be helpful to parents and families as they get ready to return to classes tomorrow:
Elementary and middle school students return Friday, Aug. 18, and high school students go back Monday, Aug. 21.
The start of JCPS Early Childhood programs has been delayed for at least two weeks. The program was scheduled to start on Aug. 23.
