Judge denies request to set bond for Charlestown man charged with killing wife
A southern Indiana man charged with killing his wife will remain behind bars without bond.
Police say Taylor Meyer stabbed his wife Deborah to death during a fight at their Charlestown home on Valentine's Day 2025.
The couple's three young children were at home when the stabbing happened, but they were not hurt.
According to court records, Meyer said they were having marital problems.
In court on Wednesday, Meyer's attorney questioned police about whether his wife had attacked him because he took her cellphone.
"Why does the evidence disprove that? Show that it could not have been that, of all things, it couldn't have been her attacking him?" asked Meyer's attorney.
Police said there were no visible signs of injury to Meyer.
"If somebody's being attacked especially by an able bodied human being I would expect there to be some manner of injury to that individual. I didn't observe that and that's not what was documented at the time via photographs," said Jeffersonville Police Department Det. Justin Salisbury.
Following Wednesday's hearing, a judge denied Meyer's request to be released on his own recognizance or have bail set. The judge ruled that Meyer is a potential flight risk and danger to the community.
As of now, Meyer is set to stand trial in July.
