Sovereignty holds off favorite Journalism to win Kentucky Derby 151
At 7-1 odds, Sovereignty was able to hold off the favorite Journalism and win the 151st Kentucky Derby.
Sovereignty covered the 1 1/4 miles over the sloppy track in 2:02.31.
Journalism claimed the second spot, while Baeza finished in third. Coming in fourth and fifth were Final Gambit and Owen Almighty.

The payout for Sovereignty's win was $17.96 to win, $7.50 place, and $5.58 to show. For Journalism's second place finish the payout was $4.94 for place and $3.70 for show. Baeza's third place finished paid out $8.38.
There were 147,406 in attendance at this year's Derby, according Churchill Downs officials.
