Source: Wild On Ice, injured while training for Kentucky Derby, has been euthanized
A Kentucky Derby contender was euthanized after being injured during an early-morning workout.
Wild On Ice, a Texas horse bred by Frank Sumpter, hurt his hind leg during a workout at Churchill Downs around 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Darren Rogers, with Churchill Downs, said the 3-year-old gelding was evaluated at the Equine Medical Center and was then taken to a surgical facility in Lexington for further evaluation.
Sources told 비바카지노 Viva just before noon that the injury ended up being too severe, and the horse had to be euthanized.
No further details were immediately available.
Wild On Ice was propelled into the race with an upset victory in the Sunland Park Derby (G3).
The horse's defection allows Santa Anita Derby (GI) third-place finisher into the Kentucky Derby field.
The Kentucky Derby is May 6.
