It's been three months since Baxter's 942 Bar and Grill, closed its doors after its liquor license renewal was denied. Despite a recent hearing, a decision regarding the renewal of a liquor license remains pending.
Frank Mascagni, the attorney representing Baxter's 942, explained since November first, Baxter's has lost out on roughly $300,000 worth of revenue.
"If this goes another 90 days, that맥스카지노s over half a million in gross revenues and liquor sales, which is a paramount amount of money expended," Mascagni said.
The decision by the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to not renew the liquor license was influenced by community input and concerns over repeated acts of violence occurring near the business, including shootings. However, these incidents never occurred on the premises of Baxter's 942.
Some residents support the reopening of Baxter's 942, while others appreciate the quieter neighborhood since its closure.
"It's been definitely quieter. I love the owner. He's doing a great job with what he had coming in. He did the best that he could do," said Sam, a Highlands resident.
Others attribute the issues not just to Baxter's but to the abundance of bars on Baxter Avenue.
"I don't think I'd ever live on these couple blocks again. It's very loud. My car is broken into in the alleys. There's a lot of people going through the trash in this area. Just a lot of activity," said Zach Newman, a Highlands resident.
Baxter's 942 has already secured a state liquor license renewal this year and is now awaiting a ruling on the local license to reopen. According to Mascagni, a decision on the license renewal is expected within the next 30 to 60 days.
