Louisville bank shooter waited in lobby to ambush police, officials say
As police released body camera footage of the mass shooting at Old National Bank in Louisville, they said the shooter actually waited to ambush police.
LMPD showed stills of the shooter, 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, as he was inside the hallway and then in the lobby of the bank.
Police said after he shot his coworkers, he waited for officers and set up an ambush.
"He then went to the front lobby where he set up an ambush and waited for officers to respond," said LMPD Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey.
Before officers arrived, Humphrey said the gunman shot at a couple of people who passed by the building.
Once officers arrived on the scene and the shooter saw them, police said he immediately started shooting at them.
That was when rookie officer Nick Wilt and his training officer Cory Galloway were shot. LMPD said officers were not able to see inside the area where the shooter was.
The shooter's vantage point made it so that he could see officers as they approached, and they couldn't see him.
