Louisville Zoo holds celebration for elephants Mikki and Punch before they depart
The Louisville Zoo honored its cherished elephants Mikki and Punch this weekend, inviting the community for a special tribute.
Visitors had a range of activities like keeper talks and elephant-related arts and crafts.
The zoo will be bidding the two elephants farewell later this spring as they embark on their next adventure at the Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee.
"They've helped, you know, families make some wonderful memories here at the zoo and to learn a lot about African and Asian elephants. Punch is an Asian elephant. Mikki is an African elephant," said Louisville Zoo spokesperson Kyle Shepherd. "Punch is almost 55 and Mikki's getting closer to 40. She's 39 right now and it's a great time in their life where they're healthy and they can make a trip for another adventure and make new friends at the elephant sanctuary."
Mikki and Punch will be leaving the Louisville some time in May.
