Sen. Mitch McConnell, Rep. Morgan McGarvey attend Memorial Day services at Cave Hill Cemetery
Across the Metro on Monday, Kentucky's top state leaders joined the community in remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
Sen. Mitch McConnell and Rep. Morgan McGarvey both spoke at a remembrance event at Cave Hill Cemetery, thanking those who served.
"Two words that come nowhere close to expressing how we all feel," said McGarvey.
"So for those of you who served, America is deeply in your debt," said McConnell.
The ceremony also honored veterans and service members who lost their lives to suicide.
"The mental toll of war can often lead to depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and unfortunately, many veterans struggle with these issues long after they have returned home," said Lt. Col. Jake McKinney.
Flags were placed at all of the graves of veterans.
"Your memory will live forever in our hearts," said McKinney.
