Place Based Investigations Unit draws scrutiny amid new Breonna Taylor allegations
The Louisville Metro Council is demanding more transparency from the Mayor's Office regarding the Breonna Taylor case.
On Thursday, council leadership sent a letter to Mayor Greg Fischer asking for the release of information related to the Vision Russell development plan, specifically any involvement including the Louisville Metro Police Department's Placed Based Investigations.
The letter came after Taylor's family's lawyers claimed the project contributed to her death.
According to the Mayor's Office, Place Based Investigations is an LMPD unit that the mayor said has been around for about six months and works to identify and disrupt crime place networks.
Fischer said Thursday that any connection between the project and Taylor's death is false.
