Coming off a state championship just a year ago, PRP baseball has had a target on its back all season."When you have a tradition and there's a lot of programs that do, you know that's a game circle on your calendar," said head coach Brad Burns. But trying to hand the Panthers a loss is easier said than done. PRP has put together yet another 20-win season and six shutouts on the year. "Every year is a different team. And so you know, this is a team that ... we've got a good enough team to still play well at the end of the year when we hope, too," said Burns. Despite losing a handful of key pieces from the 2024 state championship squad, PRP baseball remains one of the top teams in the area, sitting atop the region as they eye another deep postseason run. "In any program, I mean, your goal is to reach as high as you can, and that's the highest that you can," said Burns. "So, you know, I mean, it remains to be seen, but at the same time, you know, our ultimate goal is to simply play one game at a time. And, you know, if we can advance and great, and we'll try to tackle the next challenge in front of us." The Panthers have one final regular-season game on Friday against Boyd County before the real tests begin. It's the minor details that coach Burns preaches that will help his team to be successful."What wins postseason baseball games are all the small things," said Burns. "You know it's throwing strike one. It's making sure to, you know, field ground balls. You get outs on ... making sure to get a bunt down. I mean, it's just little things like that. But those are the things we try to work on each day. It doesn't matter how talented you may be or not ... you still have to do the small things in a baseball game to win postseason high school baseball."
