Ride share driver believes he drove one of the escaped inmates from New Orleans jail
As the search continues for the remaining escaped inmates from a New Orleans jail, sister station WDSU is hearing from people who said they spotted the escapees in several places across New Orleans.
That includes a local ride share driver who told WDSU that he potentially gave a ride to one of the inmates, Lenton Vanburen.
WDSU spoke with that driver who was still fearful the day after what he said he heard and saw, when he took his final drive in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The man who asked that his voice be disguised said he picked up a man for a ride that was booked by a woman. When the man entered the car, the driver said he tried to hide his face. He recalled the man being on the phone with a woman who kept asking him where he was in a panic.
The driver said he was able to get a good look through his front mirror of the man who sat in the backseat.
On Monday, the driver said after looking at the mugshots of the men who escaped Orleans Justice Center last Friday, he believes his passenger was Lenton Vanburen.
Last Friday, 10 men escaped the jail.
"What alarmed me was when he got in 맥스카지노 most passengers, they greet you after you greet them. He didn't say anything and was trying to conceal his hair. That alarmed me as well. Once I got to a safer area outside of NOLA East.. I started to look at the pictures and said, 'That's the guy.' I immediately called FBI," said the man.
Vanburen was arrested for allegations of illegal carrying of weapons by a felon. He has an extensive criminal history.
The driver told WDSU he had since spoken with FBI and state police. He said an agent brought him to both places where he picked up and dropped off the potential inmate in hopes of finding more clues. He also made record of what he saw.
