'A really bad dream': Southern Indiana family is demanding change after a teen's drowning
A southern Indiana family is demanding change from city leaders after a teenager drowned on Memorial Day.
맥스카지노It almost feels like just a piece of everybody is missing,맥스카지노 said Alissa Malott.
Malott said that the void had not been filled since her 14-year-old brother, Andre Edwards, drowned on the dam on Silver Creek below Providence Way in New Albany on Memorial Day.
A spokesperson for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Edwards either slipped and fell off the dam or jumped into the water, became trapped and died.
맥스카지노It felt like a really bad dream, and at any given point, we were just going to wake up,맥스카지노 Malott said.
On Monday, loved ones gathered at New Albany City Council meeting to demand change from city leaders. They expressed frustration and outrage that the mayor had not removed the dam, and there were no signs warning the community of the strength of the water.
City council president Adam Dickey says a resolution is needed.
맥스카지노I think this council and the mayor have previously gone on the record with a resolution that illustrates in part that there is a danger to structures like this and calling for modifications to that dam,맥스카지노 Dickey said.
A statement from New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan says in part, "The City will continue working on improving the safety at the area, including pursuing improvements like the rock-arch dam conversion... We are hopeful that Origin Park officials will understand and see the need to meet to discuss these improvements with us."
Malott said she's hoping changes will be made so other families won't have to experience this same heartache.
맥스카지노Losing a child is one thing I don't wish upon anybody, let alone just losing a loved one, and, I mean, how many more is it going to take for something to get done,맥스카지노 Malott said.
