Got $125K to spare? A company wants to send tourists to space using device similar to a balloon
The price of a trip to space is dropping, and you can buy a ticket today for $125,000.
A new company offering high-altitude balloon flights has just made a successful test flight from the Space Coast.
The sky is black. The horizon is curved. And you맥스카지노ve got a 450-mile view in Spaceship Neptune, a space ship carried by a balloon.
"There are no rockets involved. No high G맥스카지노s, any of that. This is smooth and gentle," said Jane Poynter, Space Perspective Chief Executive Officer.
The balloon that맥스카지노ll carry Neptune One made what its owners say is a successful test flight from the Cape last week. It flew across Florida, and for over six hours, offered space-like views from about 20 miles high, before splashing down in the Gulf.
The generally accepted altitude of the edge of space is 60 miles. A balloon would actually be useless up that high. But Space Perspective, the company behind all this, says space is what you see.
"We맥스카지노re right at 99%; in that last 1% of the atmosphere, floating at about 20 miles. So for all intents and purposes, we맥스카지노re in space," said Taber MacCallum, Space Perspective Chief Executive Officer.
And you won맥스카지노t be weightless.
The capsule is 16-feet across, seats eight, and champagne is included. The company expects no trouble at all selling tickets at $125,000 a seat.
"We맥스카지노ve had people buy up entire flights so they can take their friends and families. We맥스카지노ve had people buy several flights. There맥스카지노s huge demand," Poynter said.
Flights from the former space shuttle runway, and from Space Coast Regional Airport in Titusville, could start in 2024.
