Drivers in Shelby County need to be aware of upcoming interstate and bridge closures starting Tuesday.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is working to improve I-64 in Shelby County to increase capacity, upgrade infrastructure, and support future growth.
The project's goals are to widen an 11-mile stretch of I-64, reconstruct the KY 53 interchange, and rebuild and widen seven interstate bridges.
Key updates include the following closures:
I-64 West will be closed from May 6, 7 p.m. to May 7, 6 a.m. between mile points 35.1 and 31.6.
The detour will be KY 53 at Exit 35 to KY 55 to I-64 West.
I-64 East will be closed from May 7, 7 p.m. to May 8, 6 a.m. between mile points 31.6 and 35.1.
The detour will be KY 55 at Exit 32 to KY 53 to I-64 East.
Also, the bridge on KY 2861 at Zaring Mill Road will be closed for replacement for 90 days starting on May 6 at 9 a.m.
The detour for that will be U.S. 60 to KY 55 to KY 148 to KY 2861.
Expected completion: February 2028.
