President Donald Trump hosted French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House to discuss ending the Russia-Ukraine war as European allies expressed concerns over future U.S. support."It's time to end this bloodletting and restore peace, and I think we're going to do it. We've had some great conversations, including with Russia," Trump said.Meanwhile, Macron emphasized the need for security guarantees for Ukraine."We want to bring together these allies and share the same vision," Macron said.European allies have expressed concerns about the United States' peace talks with Russia."It appears that so far, the Europeans and the Ukrainians have been left out, which they're very angry about that," said Mark Cancian, CSIS Defense and Security Department Senior Adviser.In recent days, tensions between the U.S. and Ukraine have escalated as Trump referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a dictator and falsely suggested Ukraine started the war with Russia.The U.S. is pressuring Ukraine to give access to its rare earth minerals for various technologies in exchange for continued U.S. military aid."We're, I think, getting very close to getting an agreement where we get our money back," Trump said.Zelenskyy has said the potential agreement is short on security guarantees for Ukraine."I hope that it will not have influence on other steps of the United States and they will not cancel or stop or freeze any support, especially military support to Ukraine. It's crucial for us," Zelenskyy said.Trump also said Russian President Vladimir Putin would accept having European peacekeepers in Ukraine, which would be part of a potential agreement to end the war. Ukraine's president has emphasized they want real, lasting peace.
