Jefferson County back in red for COVID-19, prompting universal masking at JCPS
Jefferson County is now in the , which means Jefferson County Public Schools will require masking for now.
Starting Monday, July 25, everyone who enters a JCPS building or bus will be required to wear a mask, according to school officials.
Universal masking will be required until Jefferson County is no longer in the red level, they said. The community spread map is updated weekly, and JCPS officials said they will update the masking status at the end of each week.
Masks will be available for students, employees and visitors who do not have their own, officials said.
While school the school year for JCPS doesn't start until Aug. 10, some students are still in summer child enrichment programs.
If the county is still in red when school starts, students will have to wear masks in the classroom again.
JCPS's current mask policy was approved by the JCPS Board in March. They voted to continue the same mask policy when it updated Health Guidelines on July 19.
