Just days after announcing the first confirmed case of the coronavirus in Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear announced the state has three more cases.
During a press conference Sunday, Beshear confirmed the patients live in Jefferson, Fayette and Harrison counties. All three patients are in isolation.
According to officials, the Jefferson County patient is a Louisville resident, who is currently being treated at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. The patient was tested for COVID-19 after arriving at the hospital with respiratory symptoms.
Employees and others who may have come into contact with the patient in have been identified and are being evaluated.
"As long as we are ready, as long as we are working together and as long as we all remain calm, we're gonna be OK," Beshear said.
As of 5:45 p.m. Sunday, 21 people have been tested for the virus with 17 tests coming back negative, Beshear said during the conference.
Harrison County Public Schools will be closed next week and students will work from home. Beshear recommends nursing homes stop allowing visitors and that public gatherings should be delayed. His office is not advising businesses to close but urged employers to allow sick employees to stay home and still get paid.
The governor has declared a state of emergency, but urged Kentuckians not to panic.
