Focusing on the fact that Ha Beom-woon, who was active in the Gyeongsangwoo Province in the former half of the 19th century, created Samsangugoksi, this study analyzed the history of Deoksan- gugok, the creative background of Samsangugoksi, and Deoksangugoksi. The findings led to the following conclusions:Ha Beom-woon was a sixth generation descendent of Ha Jin and Namin line scholar active in Jinju in the former half of the 19th century. Combining Nammyeonghak with Toigyehak, he worked hard to support and maintain the academic tradition and discipline of the extremely stagnated region. His academic inclinations can be summarized into Dokseomyeongri and Hansageundok. He sought after life of finding a seed in faithfulness and practicing faithfulness in daily life, which is confirmed in Jaseongjam and Sanjunghoigo.Gyeongsangwoo Province had less developed Gugok culture than Gyeongsangjwa Province because its geographical features prevented Gugok from being formed and because its scholars lacked the perception of Gugok culture. As a result, Deoksangugok was not set even near Deokcheon Auditorium that held a religious service for Nammyeong. It was in the former half of the 19th century that Ha Beom-woon named it Deoksangugok for the first time. When he visited Lee Ya-sun in Andong in 1823, Lee showed him Dosangugoksi and Oksangugoksi and asked him to write a poem by borrowing rhymes from them. After returning home, he created a rhyme-borrowing poem and sent it to him along with Deoksangugoksi. He thus called the auditorium that held a religious service for Hoijae, Toigye and Nammyeong "Samsan" and designated a title of "Samsangugoksi" to indicate that Gugok in Samsan showed that the origin of moral philosophy lied in Yeongnam. It was in the same line of Ahn Deok-mun admiring the three scholars and establishing the title and status of Samsan Auditorium, which was the creative background behind Ham writing Samsangugoksi and displaying Deoksangugok along with Dosangugok and Oksangugok. In the Deoksangugok of Samsangugoksi by him, Ha partially changed the name and title of Muigugok administered in the mountainous valley behind Deokcheon Auditorium by Jeong Shik before his time. Comparison between Deoksangugoksi by Ha and Muigugoksi by Jeong reveals obvious differences in content between them. While Jeong tried to inherit the "Muidoga" spirit of Zhu Xi as it was, Ha focused on exhibiting the spirit and integrity of Nammyeong. That is, the content of his Deoksangugoksi was all about recalling and worshiping the science and spirit of Nammyeong and lamenting over the decayed morality of his times. He added Deoksangugoksi as one of Samsangugoksi to inherit Ahn's spirit of establishing the title and status of Samsan Auditorium and show that Deoksan of Nammyeong had the same academic nature as the origin of moral philosophy by combining it with Oksan and Dosan into one, which holds the significance of his Samsangugoksi. In spite of such efforts made by Ha, however, Deoksangugok was not set around the relics of Nammyeong in Deoksan where Deokcheon Auditorium was located because the local figures lacked the perception of Gugok culture in the latter half of Joseon. The biggest reason for failing to set Deoksangugok was that the descendents of Nammyeong were not active with setting it unlike those of Toigye that were active with setting Dosangugok.
