This study began by arguing that collective memories, one of the internal characteristics of North Korea, should be considered actively in the process of pushing forward a policy regarding North Korea. If there is no consideration into the internal situation of North Korea, the residents' perceptions of South Korea, and their loyalty and solidarity for the North Korean regime, South Korea's policies for North Korea will drop in effectiveness. The most important factor that broke down their belief system was exposure to external information represented by South Korean videos. Compared with the previous "Cheonrima" generation, the Jangmadang generation distinguished their identity clearly and showed many differences in loyalty and solidarity for the Party. The collective memories of the Jangmadang generation hold significance in that they will increase the effectiveness of South Korea's policies for North Korea by promoting the prior understanding of the North Korean residents' consciousness structure in the process of driving such policies.
