This study developed 'Career Aptitude Test for Designer' to help design-majoring college students who are seeking their career goals or deciding their majors, and high school students who want to explore their aptitude for becoming a designer.
For those purposes, a series of studies - study 1, study 2 and study 3 (3-1, 3-2, 3-3) wasconducted. Through the investigations of the previous related studies, the subscales of the ' Career Aptitude Test for Designer' were induced. For the empirical validation of the subscales, a national samples of 4-year college coursestudents were used as subjects. The subscales of the 'Career Aptitude Test for Designer' extracted from the studies are 'basic design competency' and 'advanced design competency'. This study further classified the 'basic design competency' and 'advanced design competency' into several constructs and defined each concept.
The results showed that the 'Career Aptitude Test for Designer' has an adequate factor structure to represent design aptitude. Further study is needed to validate the scale through the investigation of the relationship with related scales measuring designing ability, and with other criteria-referenced group.
