    This research was conducted to understand the career identity, compassionate competence, clinical practice stress, career adaptability, and to discover the factors that affect career adaptability. The participants of the research were 162 nursing students with clinical practice experience, and the data collection period was from December of 2018 to February of 2019. The research found that the subjectsโ€™ career identity averaged 2.60, compassionate competence averaged 3.80 points, clinical practice stress averaged 2.96 points, and career adaptability averaged 3.95 points out of 5 points. The subjectsโ€™ career adaptability showed a negative correlation with clinical practice stress, and showed a positive correlation with career identity and compassionate competence. Factors affecting the subjectsโ€™ career adaptability were significant in compassionate competence, clinical practice stress, and career identity, among which compassionate competence had the highest influence. Based on the results of this research, in order to enhance career adaptation of nursing students, clinical practice stress needs to be lowered, and diverse educational strategies are needed to strengthen career identity and compassionate competence.
