In this article, I examine how Korean middle-class children learn and acquire the local cultural meanings of emotions, especially culturally specified notions of "love," focusing in particular on the children's own experiences. By analyzing discourses of love from children's peer talk as well as talk between teachers and children, I argue that children do not passively adopt adult cultural inputs regarding emotions, but rather engage in the creative appropriation and strategic reinterpretation to construct their own culture-laden emotional world. My findings articulate the contribution children and their peer talk make to emotional socialization and the inherent dynamism of socialization.????
