    The aim of this paper is to examine the relationships among translation, power and postcoloniality. At the age of enlightenment, most of the Korean translations were the secondhand translation from Japanese version. The distorted western modern civilization of Japanese style was adopted in Korea in this way. Now we are under the post-colonial situation, this problem was not improved completely. If we want to approach the problem of postcoloniality, we should understand the attribute of translation, and search for a possibilities of decolonization in its attribute.
    It was considered that translation is the rendering of something into another language or into one's own from anther language. But in the late twenties century, the transfer of cultural text was connoted into translation concept, according as the cultural exchange and intervention was activated at a global level. Now the culture becomes the focus of translation, so this cultural turn of translation intensifies its ideological and political characteristics, and plays an important part as time goes on.
    Translation shows ambivalence of entropic and anti-entropic effects. It produces liminality between the original and target text, and so forms the third cultural space. And translation as a cultural capital is converted into power in its cultural stage and acquires political and ideological quality through power. Because of these attributes, translation can be changed into the practical strategies of the decolonization which postcolonialism aims at. There are three ways for it: retranslation, hybrid translation, and counter-translation. Retranslation is to retranslate the texts translated by the empire/neo-empire through rereading and rewriting. Hybrid translation is to subvert hegemonic position by translating hegemonic texts through hybrid language and culture. And counter-translation is to revise the deterioration and distortion of native culture caused by the empire/neo-empire translation through adopting domesticating and foreignizing. In addition, it is urgent to settle the unfavorable phenomena of translation appeared when translation of foreign texts exceeds domestic texts without the strategies mentioned above.
