The Naepo area, which includes Taean, Chungcheong-do, has both coastal and inland areas, and has traditionally been an area rich in products. The vast plains and portholes created on each coast were always overflowing with agricultural and marine products. The Yangban class settled in Naepo from early on, and they concentrated their ownership of the land by using their social status. Therefore, the people of Taean were in an area with more severe life and relative deprivation than any other area, such as facing economic difficulties. Donghak��s teachings spread more rapidly in places where the gap between rich and poor and relative deprivation is large, such as in the Naepo area.
It was due to the wind of Donghak, which was started in Naepo, around 1880. Choi Hyeong-soon was the first to enter Donghak in Taean in 1890. Choi Hyung-soon devoted Donghak Podeok mainly to Seosan and Taean regions. However, it was Park Hee-in who greatly expanded Donghak in the Taean region.
With Park Hee-in��s efforts, Donghak expanded to the northeastern regions of Naepo regions such as Onyang, Sinchang, Dangjin and Yesan, as well as the southwestern regions such as Taean, Seosan, Haemi, Hongju, and Nampo. Most of Taean��s Donghak leaders were led by Park Hee-in. The forces of Donghak in Taean actively participated in the Gyojosin-won-movement, which began in 1893. At the Boeun Congress, Park Hee-in was appointed as a Yepodaejeobju and took charge of the Taean area.
The Donghak Peasant Revolution in Naepo area began in earnest following the mobilization order of Choi Si-hyung in the year of September 18, 1894.
Park Hee-in got up in Seosan and Taean and actively participated in the Donghak Peasant Revolution. Afterwards, Donghak-gun in Taean defeated the Japanese, Gwangun, and Yuhoe Army in the Battle of Seungjeongok and Gwanjak-ri in Shinryewon and gathered at Hongjuseong Fortress. However, Donghak in Taean, who was defeated in the Battle of Hongjuseong, suffered tremendous damage in the process of retreating and disbanding. The ruling power of Joseon, who attracted foreign powers to protect the vested rights, was recorded as a loser of history, although it won. However, even though they were defeated in battle, the ideal society that Donghak pursued was forever recorded as a victor of history.
