Israel, Egypt, and the US’s Role in the Middle East Peace Process of the 1970s Investigated Using Kenneth Waltz’s Image Theory

The return to peace is always challenging for nations at war. However, the Camp David Accords developed a framework for resolving conflict between Israel, Egypt, and the US. This study investigated the factors that led the three countries to pursue a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Arab crisis. Additionally, the ways in which mediation and bargaining used in the peace-making process were also discussed. The evidence thus collected indicated that Egypt became open to peaceful negotiations after it lost several wars to Israel and failed to reclaim the Sinai Peninsula from Israel.
For its part, Israel’s participation in the negotiations was influenced by its international partners, especially the United States, which was itself motivated to maintain its superiority over the Soviet Union while also reviving its economy.
