The Activity for Ensuring Food Safety in European Union (EU)

Food safety is one of the major topics in European Union (EU), because several unfortunate events affecting food safety have occurred. More and more, EU¡¯s consumers need to be kept better informed of food alert system, and have the right to expect information on food traceability. The EU¡¯s food safety activity is required in a more integrated system with a view to achieving the highest possible level of health protection. Therefore, food safety has become an important factor for governmental policy and company strategies. The EU countries establish the various agencies and regulations for consumers which provide food alert system and food traceability systems. The multiple information systems are rapidly increasing a set of services that give the consumer more direct access to food safety data. In a recent trend for food purchase of Korea, food safety information is becoming the standard to enhance consumer confidence and appeals to the consumers' demand. Korean consumers will require a more integrated system with a view to achieving the highest possible level of health protection, more and more. Therefore, Korea¡¯s government and companies must enact the promoting regulations, food alert system, traceability information, and will needs to develop an integrated network information system to aid navigation about food safety to consumer table from production of food.
