The aim of this paper is to explore how 'spatial turn' is ¡®constructed¡¯ in literary and cultural discourses, and to explore how these construction processes might be conceptualised and analysed. Our overall argument is that the analysis of spatial discourses will benefit from using a theoretical and analytical framework that deals not only with discourses but also with spaces and spatiality. To achieve this we elaborate a theoretical and analytical framework for the discourse analysis of socio-spatial relations.
Cognitive theorists and newly Cutural theorists have proposed that the spatial elements of bodily experience are very importantfor our understanding of both the world around us and of more abstract concepts including time. In postmodernism, the idea of a 'world' is itself destabilized, and different spaces multiply and merge.
The application of this framework, and the resulting insights into the nature of spatial policy, are illustrated by focusing on the emerging field of global spatial discourses. This is a particularly interesting case, because it reveals how new modes of theory thinking, institutional structures, and practices are being constructed, challenging those that have evolved in the different cultural areas. The new discourse of digital spatial theory is being shaped in a complex milieu of value proving and contested meanings which extends across Genres and reaches from traditional literature to newly digital arts.
