Ka?ha-upani?ad(KU) is famous for upanishad of death theme of Yama and Naciketas. But this episode is also found in TB. Both episodes consist of three wishes for a god that a young boy experiences death by his father. Yama allows Naciketas¡¯s unique altar to reveal the mystery of the Trinity that the sun, fire altar, and Atman combine.
In this paper, we try to systematically analyze the concept of s??k¨¡, focusing on Bodewitz and Olivelle¡¯s hermeneutical views, which are different from the Vedantic translation, which is the mainstream of Upanishad interpretation. This method of study is an analytical methodology to look at KU in the ideological context of the comprehensive Veda Samhita, Brahmana and Upanishad as a methodology of Vedic hermeneutics that interprets Upanishad as the final conclusion of Vedas. In this process, a gold necklace symbolizing wealth and prosperity, a round golden plate hanging on the neck of yajamana, and a spiritual identity of Naciket¨¡s as a golden disc buried under the foundation of the ritual(yaj?a, ¼Àʽ).
However, as the wishes of re-death(punarm?tyu, ÔÙËÀ) in TB and the knowledge of immortality(am?ta, ²»œç) in KU emerge as a wish, the problem of death in Veda overcomes repeated deaths and leads to a philosophical direction with eternal liberation. The episode of Naciketas revealing this change is a golden disc called s??k¨¡, representing Atman and Brahman. KU¡¯s unique term, s??k¨¡, shows that Yama¡¯s golden disc presented to the boy implies ¡®knowledge¡¯(vidy¨¡, Öª×R), functioning as a immortal metaphor symbolizing the transformation of Upanishad¡¯s intellectualism in Vedas.
