As the fourth industrial revolution accelerates along with artificial intelligence and robottechnology development, people became more and more interested in natural language processingthat can replace human language command abilities. In this study, we describe thebrief history of natural language processing, the underlying technology, and various applicationsincluding natural language dialog interface, machine translation, and question answeringsystem. Furthermore, this study proposes ��HanTongE��, an automatic word translationservice that was designed to help those who have very basic Korean abilities, such as membersof multicultural families. Members of multicultural families face difficulties in educatingtheir children and going about their daily lives due to language barriers. However, current automatictranslation technology is focused on services for English, Chinese, Japanese, and othermajor languages. Also, there are limitations on the services�� ability to translate words necessaryfor specific purposes such as children��s education and government services.
��HanTongE�� automatically analyzes the meaning of each word in a Korean sentence and thenprovides multilingual replacement words to help the user understand Korean sentenceseasily. This study is being conducted in a multidisciplinary approach that comprises researchesin various areas such as natural language processing, language education, and multiculturalpolicy.
