Kuomintang government implemented a series of policies for the education of overseas Chinese. In the education, Kuomintang government stressed out the nationalism in the education for Chinese immigrants in particular. As shown in Danghua Jiaoyu (the education for the party), the slogan that demonstrated the purpose of Kuomintang education for overseas Chinese, Kuomintang government regarded the education as important method to inspire the nationalism in the immigrant society. In the meantime, Chinese immigrants in East Asia and Southeast Asia, aside from the influence of Kuomintang, established overseas Chinese schools according to each immigrant group¡¯s need. Even if Kuomintang government intended to control these individual schools, the mainland government¡¯s attempt largely failed to seize the control. The failure of the education is attributed to the absence of Kuomintang influence in local immigrant society, the mainland government¡¯s ignorance to the overseas school, and finally, contested perspective on the Chinese nationalism between the government and immigrants. Meanwhile, the schools in East Asia and Southeast Asia indicated some contrasting points in terms of size and characteristic; the differences ascribed to the perspectives on China of the Western powers and Japan, and the degree of immigration in each region.
