This article aimed at examining the cultural memory activities of post-experienced generations on the Korean Massacres during the Great Kanto Earthquake, in Korea and Japan during 1980s. The three activities to analyze are as follows: 1) memorial services of Japanese and Korean citizens, 2) documentary film <Hidden Scars>(1983) and <Abandoned Korean in Japan>(1986) directed by Zainichi-Korean director Oh Chunggong, 3) documentary drama <Finding Lost History>(1985) written by Korean author Kim Euikyung.
The cultural memory activities can be characterized in the context of Korea-Japan relations in the 1980s. First, those cultural memory activities were achieved through the exchange and solidarity between Japanese, Zainichi-Koreans and Koreans. The traces of exchange and solidarity were recorded in the works of Oh Chunggong and Kim Euikyung. The activities of Japanese and Korean citizens were cited in Oh Chunggong's film, Kim Euikyung's figure was appeared in Oh Chunggong's film, and Kim Euikyung's play featured characters reminiscent of Japanese citizens. Second, it was a pioneering cultural movement that brought up the issue of Japanese national responsibility by highlighting the Korean Massacres which had not been discussed on the main agenda of Korea-Japan historical issues. Third, in the works of Oh Chunggong and Kim Euikyung, the Japanese stood out as subjects of excavation and remorse, while the voice of the direct victim Koreans were relatively shrunk and was silent.
