There are water drop shaped tiles in China, Korea, and Japan. These tiles were invented in China, and were introduced into Korea during the Goryeo period from China. These tiles were imported into Japan in the end of the Middle ages from Korea. Soon after that, the shape of these tiles started Japanization. That results from the difference in manufacturing techniques of tiles between Japan and Korea. Korean artisan manufactured flat tiles by using a bucket mold, but Japanese artisan manufactured by using a semicylindrical mold. The difference of tools engendered a difference in clay joining techniques between both countries.????
