Would our contemporary social darwinism in the mid-19th century and the early 20th century be just one simple slogan? It means to be whether or not having been merely a catch-phrase that had wandered only with Useungyeolpae(�����Ӕ�)?Yakyukgangsik(����ǿʳ)?Saengjongyeongjaeng(���渂��). In lots of books and theses that discuss Korean modern literature, the social darwinism has quite appeared and has been followed even now. They leave a lot to be desired. It is a fact that the aspect, which has been seen by those books and theses with addressing social darwinism, had remained in simple mention and superficial analysis. This brought about a result of having failed to call the social darwinism into a place of in-depth discourse in the analysis of modern literature. The purpose of this study was to analyze his attitude of accepting social darwinism focusing on Lee Hae-jo's ��Ethics(����W)�� in the middle of recognizing this matter.
In this process, the attention was paid to the influential relationship between the recognition on traditional thought of East Asia and Liangqichao. The important analytical subjects here included the Chinese-way acceptance based on the traditional thought of East Asia and on a human being's morality and ethics, and the Japanese-way acceptance aspect based on anti-traditionalism and thorough materialism.
Lee Hae-jo established the attitude of accepting his own subjective social darwinism by integrating ��ethics.�� Especially, he is repeatedly giving emphasis through ��ethics�� to which the object called ��I��should position as the thoroughly subjective and awakened ��ego��when being called from ��society�� and ��state.�� This is also what is containing a desire for ��creating the awakened people,�� which flows in the whole of his work. This, namely, the creation in new name(��) of conforming with matter(��), can be said to be the cardinal point of ��Ethics�� by Lee Hae-jo. Here, ��matter�� means reality. ��Name�� means ideology. As the East Asia in the early 20th century is the period of Seosedongjeom(���ݖ|�u), it had been confronted with big gap between name and matter. The concreteness of striving to resolve and settle the gap was literally shown even in the attitude of accepting social darwinism. This is what was based on the traditional thought of East Asia and is confirming that it is drawing the same track as Liangqichao's thought of darwinism.
