The purpose of this paper is to read the “bromance” of Dongju(2016) in a decolonical context among Korean films in the 2010s, where the ratio of male-centered narratives increased and the ratio of male-centered genres also increased.
This paper explored the points where the brothers were distinguished and overlapped by looking at how they encountered the ruling men under colonial rule and how the ‘modern masculinity’ of Dong-ju’s ‘the pen(文)’ and Mong-gyu’s ‘the sword(武)’ were expressed.
Dong-ju and Mong-gyu’s “bromance” is a process of differentiation and integration called “poetic response” and “armed struggle.” It is expected that this paper, which aims to examine the “bromance” created by Dong-ju’s reflective life and Mong-gyu’s practicing life, will contribute to viewing the “bromance” ubiquitous in various media.????
