학습자 중심 플마드러닝(Flipped Learning) 수업의 적용 사례 (A Study on Application of Learner-Centered Flipped Learning Model)

본 연구는 학습자 중심의 플마드러닝(Flipped Learning) 기반 초등 사회과 수업을 설계, 현장 적용하고 플마드러닝 모델의 활용 가능성을 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해, 해외 문헌과 사례를 분석하여 플마드러닝의 활동 단계왿� 내용에 따른 초등 5학년 사회과 수업안을 개발, B시의 한 초등학껓 22명을 대상으로 19차시의 수업을 실시한 후 수업에 대한 인식조사왿� 학업성취 평가를 실시하였다. 개발된 플마드러닝 사회과 수업모델은 5단계 절차로, 크게 수업 전 동영상강의 시청 및 강의노트작성, 수업 중 토의 및 토론, 역사신문만들기, 즉흥극 및 역할극 시연 등 사전 획득한 지식의 적용, 수업 후 학생들이 개별 팀의 창의적 역할극 대본 만들기 활동을 통해 배운 지식을 확장하는 활동 등으로 구성되었다. 활동 종료 후 실시한 인식조사 결과, 첫째 플마드러닝에 대한 학생들의 인식은 전반적으로 긍정적이었으며, 둘째 수업 전 동영상 강의시청과 노트정리가 학습내용이해에 도움이 된 것으로 드러났다. 셋째, 학생들은 수업 중에 교사 및 동료들과의 원활한 상호작용을 통해 의문점을 해결하고 다른 수업보다 다소 많은 의사소통을 가졌던 것으로 파악되었다. 넷째, 수업 후 지식 적용활동에서는 학생들이 보다 도전적인 과제를 통해 학습내용에 대해 보다 깊이 이해할 수 있는 시간을 가졌던 것으로 분석되었다. 그러나, 플마드러닝 수업 참여 학생들의 학업 성취왿� 관련해서는 유의미한 변화가 발견되지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 향후 플마드러닝 수업의 적용과 관련하여 다음과 같은 몇 가지 시사점이 도출되었다. 첫째, 학생이 지식을 습득해 가는 모든 과정에 대해 교사의 지속적인 모니터링과 평가가 필요하다. 둘째, 교수-학습자의 활동과 전략을 보다 체계적으로 모듈화 한 모델이 요청된다. 셋째, 학생들의 특성에 맞게 다양한 개별화 학습 자료가 지원될 필요가 있다.

The purpose of this study was to develop and apply learner-centered flipped learning lesson plans to a social studies class to explore the feasibility of the flipped learning model in Korean situation. To achieve this goal, the lesson plans were constructed based upon steps and elements of the flipped learning model drawn from literature reviews and case analyses applied to various academic fields. The developed plans were implemented in a fifth-grade social studies class of 22 students. The each plan consisted of five steps: Before Class, Beginning of Class, During Class, After Class, and Office Hours. First, in before class, participating students watched video lectures provided by their teachers and took notes on lectures to summarize them and questions. Second, in beginning of class, the teacher checked whether students earned right concepts and knowledge from video lectures and gave students feedback. Third, in during class, students implemented discussion, making historical newspapers, and role-play to apply concepts and knowledge they learned. Fourth, in after class, students conducted other creative activities like developing individual team’s ingenious script for role-play to expand their knowledge. Fifth, in office hours, the teacher and students continuously communicated through on- and off-line tools to solve each team’s project. In the result of students’ awareness investigation, they were generally positive on the flipped learning model class. The students in the flipped learning model class were more actively involved in communication among teacher and students, compared with other classroom activities. Furthermore, in the step of after class, the students could more deeply understand concepts and knowledge they had to learn through application activity of them to more challengeable tasks. Meanwhile, regarding the students’ academic achievement, there were no significant differences between students in flipped model and ordinary classes. In addition, some implications were drawn and discussed to apply more effectively the flipped learning model to elementary school classes in Korea.
