STEAM 교육 운영에 관한 초등학껓 교사들의 인식 연구 (Perceptions of Elementary School Teachers on STEAM Education)

본 연구는 초등학껓 교사들을 대상으로 한 심층면담을 통하여 STEAM 교육 운영에 관한 인식을 조사 및 분석하여STEAM 교육정책의 활성화왿� 학껓 교육 내의 정착을 위한 시사점을 모색하고자 한다. 초등학껓 교사들은 STEAM 교육에 관하여 어떻게 인식하고 있는지, 학껓 교육에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 있는지, 운영에 어려운 점과 개선점은무엇인지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 교사들은 STEAM 교육의 개념에 대하여 ‘융합교육’이 가장 많았고, ‘하나의정책’ 또는 ‘사업 이름’, 그리고 ‘미래형 교과’라고 하였다. 그리고 교사들 대부분은 STEAM 교육의 효과에 대하여긍정적인 데에 반하여 실제 학껓 교육에서는 잘 이루어지고 있지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 초등학생들에게는 STEAM 교육이 부적합하다는 견해도 있다. STEAM 교육이 잘 이루어지지 못하는 이유로는 STEAM 교육에 관한 교사들의인식 부족, 운영의 관심과 의지 및 배경지식 부족, 시간적·물리적인 제약, 교육과정 운영에 관한 교사의 자율권 제한과학부모의 민원 가능성 등으로 나타났다. STEAM 교육의 활성화를 위한 개선점으로 교사들은 STEAM 교육을 포함한교육과정 개발 및 제공, 교사의 교육기회 확대, 물리적 환경 및 사회 전반의 분위기 개선을 들었다. 끝으로, 본 연구결과에 기초해서 STEAM 교육 운영에 있어 교사로서 필요한 점과 적절한 교육정책 수립 및 시사점, 그리고 후속연구를위한 제언을 제시하였다.

This study investigated and analyzed perceptions on STEAM education through in-depth interviews with elementary school teachers and drew implications for the activation of STEAM education policies and settlement in school education. The researchers attempted to find out how elementary school teachers feel about STEAM education, how STEAM education affects schools, as well as what difficulties are experienced and what measures are in place for improvement.
The results of the study showed that teachers have various perceptions and opinions about STEAM education, including “convergence education,” “it is just one of the policies,” or a lack of awareness, as well as negative perceptions about STEAM education. While most of the teachers gave positive evaluations and pointed out the positive educational effects of STEAM education, the study found that the actual school education did not work well. Two or more subjects, such as Science, Mathematics, Art, and Practical Arts, were mainly applied to STEAM education in class, and the curriculum was planned at the school level and proceeded in the form of vertical instructions delivered to teachers. The reasons for poor STEAM education were the teachers' perception of STEAM education; lack of interest, will, and background knowledge; temporal and physical constraints; restrictions on teacher autonomy regarding curriculum management; and possible complaints from parents.
As improvement points for the revitalization of STEAM education, teachers recommended the development and provision of a curriculum that includes STEAM education, the expansion of teachers' educational opportunities, and the improvement of the physical environment and overall atmosphere in society. Finally, based on the results of this study, recommendations for the operation of STEAM education and the implications for the establishment of appropriate educational policies and subsequent research were presented.
