신학-정치의 문제틀로 본 스피노자의 성서해석 (Spinoza's Biblical Interpretation Based on the Theological-Political Problematik)

이 글에서 우리는 스피노자의 성서해석 방법을 신학과 정치의 관계라는 맥락에서 재구성했고, 이를 통해 다음과 같은 점을 보여주었다. 첫째, 스피노자의 성서해석 방법은 성서의 역사를 통해 성서의 의미를 해석하는 방법이며, 이 방법은 성서를 잘못 해석함으로써 종교를 미신화하는 것을 방지하기 위해 제시되었다. 둘째, 스피노자는 성서의 의미를 특권적으로 해석할 수 있는 개인이나 집단의 존재를 거부하며, 이를 통해 지배적인 신학자 집단의 영향력 행사를 제어하고자 했다. 셋째, 스피노자는 성서의 성스러움의 원천을 성서라는 문헌의 연속성에 대한 믿음에서 찾지 않고 보편 종교에 대한 믿음이 정의왿� 자비의 실천으로 사람들을 추동할 수 있는지의 여부에서 찾았다. 넷째,《신학정치론》에서 제시된 종교관과 구원관이《에티카》에서 제시된 그것과 양립불가능하다는 일부 스피노자 연구가들의 비판이 있는데, 이런 비판은 보편적 계시종교가 미신에서 벗어나기 위해 필요하다는 스피노자의 주장을 간과한 것이다. 또,《에티카》의 철학적 구원 개념과《신학정치론》의 비철학적 구원 개념이 양립불가능하다는 비판 역시 양자가 형식적인 면뿐만 아니라 내용적인 면에서 공통점이 있으며, 후자가 전자에 기여할 수 있다는 점을 간과하고 있다. 나의 논의는 주로 보편적 계시종교가 스피노자의 존재론 과 인식론 및 윤리학과 일관된지의 여부를 충분히 다루지 못하고 있다는 점에서 한계가 있다. 또 나의 논의는 신학과 정치의 관계의 또 다른 한 축인 신학에 대한 정치의 개입과 제어의 문제를 전혀 다루지 못하고 있다는 점에서도 한계가 있다.

In this article, I reconstruct Spinoza's method of interpreting the Bible in the context of the relationship between theology and politics. By doing so, I highlight a number of points. First, Spinoza's method of biblical interpretation is a method of understanding the meaning of the Bible through its history. His method aimed to prevent religious superstition due to misinterpretation. Second, Spinoza denied that certain individuals or groups were in a privileged position to interpret the Bible. He thus tried to control the theoretical and practical influence of the mainstream theologians of the time. Third, Spinoza did not find the source of the sacredness of the Bible in the belief in the continuity of biblical literature, but in whether the Bible could motivate people to practice justice and mercy based on seven doctrines extracted from the sacred book. Fourth, some scholars of Spinoza have argued that the view of religion and salvation presented in the Theological-Political Treatise is incompatible with the view of religion and salvation presented in the Ethics. However, these critics overlook the fact that Spinoza asserts that universal religion is necessary to break free from superstition. Furthermore, criticism that the philosophical concept of salvation in the Ethics and the non-philosophical concept of salvation in the Theological-Political Treatise are incompatible ignores that both have in common elements in terms of content and form and that the latter can contribute to the former. My discussion is limited in that it does not sufficiently deal with whether universal revelation religion is consistent with Spinoza's ontology, epistemology, and ethics. Moreover, my analysis is limited in that it does not discuss the problem of intervention and control of politics in theology, which is another axis of the relationship between theology and politics.
