There are two ways for word formation study. One is semasiological approach study which is ‘language → concept’ direction, and the other one is onomasiological approach study which is ‘concept → language’ direction. Based on former approach, a number of word formation research have been examined so far, while the latter approach begin in earnest in Korean linguistics recently. In onomasiological approach study, nonce words from data of naming task and word refining are very important sources for research. There are, however, some critical opinions. This paper aims to examine each answer for three questions, and to emphasize the meaning of nonce words study in onomasiological approach. A number of word study had been based on only words of dictionary began to expand research objects to nelogisms. Likewise, nonce words can be major research objects of word formation as well in the future.????
