This essay explores the historical significance of Kim Chul's theory concerned in national unification which is presented in his works related at the programs of unification. Especially, this essay try to investigate the relationship in democratic socialism and national unification as a central subject of this research, and investigate the historical and practical meanings of unification programs which are suggested by Kim Chul.
The ideas which are implied in Kim Chul¡¯s unification theory are nationalism, democracy, socialism, and pacifism. In this essay I try to investigate the process in which these ideas construct the inner structure by mutually interacting, and complete the plentiful contents.
On Kim Chul¡¯s perspective, democratic socialism is the inner condition of national unification, nonalignment-neutrality is the outer condition of national unification. In this essay I try to investigate the combination with realization of democracy and unification by nonalignment, and verify the relation inner and outer in the combination which is presented in a pro-democracy movement against Yushin regime and a multilateral unification strategy by international solidarity which could be constructed with SI and nonalignment block to pursue independent diplomacy against USA.
Democratic socialism, even if the task of general states, which works as a constituent of Kim Chul's unification theory, could imply the meaning of world history which would realize the dialectic Aufheben between the vestiges of communism and the contradiction of capitalism.
Therefore, there are dual meanings simultaneously, socialism as a general application and socialism as a global solution about the regional problems of the last divided country which has been derived from the Cold War.
