Most Germans were astonished by the incident that took place in R¨¹tli Hauptschule, Neuk?lln, Berlin, which became a chance to look back on the social mix policy and integrated education in Germany. In addition, it became an opportunity to change the people¡¯s way of thinking that it would be impossible for the people with a background of emigration from Islamic countries to coexist through an integration policy since they have values, norms and world-view which are different from those of the Germans. The R¨¹tli incident showed the facts that some problematic students from the Middle East, too, have the same desire and hope as Germans do and that they, also, can be dignified human beings if social and economic inequality is relieved and there are proper hands of care, support and solidarity. Examining why an integrated education at the R¨¹tli School failed and what means and methods the community and school used for the integration of these problematic students is important for an education for cultural integration of immigrants and workers. Political, social and cultural environments are different in South Korea and Germany, but this instance provides a great deal of implication in the establishment of cultural integrated education policy which gets increasingly more important in South Korea now.
