This article analyzes the Bildungsromans in korean novelists of 4.19 revolutionary generations in the 1960s. Typically, the bildungsroman is well known the novel as a genre to treat the youth meaningfully. But youth as an important step in life and modernity in the ceaseless change and the creation that are homologous. The bildungsroman is a problematic modern novel genre that explores the youth as a symbolic form of modernity. In South Korea since the Korean War(1950. 6. 25), the emergence of the Bildungsroman is closely associated with the great transformation of Korean modernity that symbolized as 4.19 citizenship revolution(1960. 4. 19) and 5.16 the military Coup d'etat(1961. 5. 16). Both incident and sometimes confrontational, sometimes antagonistic youth educated to deal meaningfully with the formal potential and impotential of the novel lies in the middle of the castle. From Choe In Hoon's novelle ¡°Square¡±(1961) to Lee Dong Ha's novel ¡°Melancholy homecoming¡±(1967), in this article analyses the seven bildungsromans from the point of view as the critical fiction, irony fiction, self-formation fiction. This article extracts the political unconscious that has been implicated in the youth culture experience and formation of self in korean bildungsromans.
